Clifton Estate was a small estate of quality dwellings designed by Barry Parker in 1926-1936, who was also working on New Earswick. They were originally intended for sale rather than rent, but not principally built for Rowntree company managers. It was situated beside Joseph Rowntree’s old home at Clifton Lodge.
