Families Get Active York: Rowntree Trail

Families Get Active York: Rowntree Trail

Families Get Active York is part of a 3-year project funded by the Workers Educational Association (WEA) and Sport England. It aims to create an engaging environment for families from all backgrounds to get fitter in low-cost, accessible ways.

We are working collaboratively with the project coordinator and a team of volunteers to develop a new historical trail and web-based app for families, residents and visitors to York. The trail will focus on the heritage buildings, sports fields and green spaces along the Haxby Road, close to the site of the old Rowntree factory. Supplementary resources will offer families information on sports days, sports clubs and physical activities promoted by Rowntree & Co. across the twentieth century to encourage health and wellbeing across its workforce.

The trail will be offered in hard copy format to participating families and will be available for anyone to download from the WEA website and complete.
