Open House Welcomes The Rowntree Society

The Joseph Rowntree Housing Trust was created over 110 years ago by Joseph Rowntree to provide high quality housing. Today, the JR Housing Trust organises events for York’s communities, and this event is in partnership with The Rowntree Society! Come along to handle objects ranging from Rowntree’s sweets/chocolates boxes, a hands-on ‘game’ which was actually an entry test to see whether you could work in the factory, and magazines which the Rowntree’s factory produced for its workers to read. We are looking to connect with anyone with an interest in Rowntree history, or with a personal connection to the Rowntree factory or family! We would love to find out from you what your memories and experiences of the Rowntrees in York are, and to understand what connection you feel today to the Rowntree influence in York and surrounding areas.
