Welcome to the Rowntree Society
Welcome to the Rowntree Society, a charity set up to try to ensure that the work and ideas of the Rowntree family continue to influence a new generation. Here you will find information about Joseph Rowntree, the famous chocolate manufacturer and philanthropist, and other members of the family, including his son, Seebohm Rowntree.
By browsing the site, you can look at quotations by or about the family and their work, read articles, follow a virtual walk round York and sites connected with the family. You can prepare for your visit to this beautiful city, and even print off an I-spy trail for younger family members to follow when you’re in York.
Please note that - despite our name - we are entirely separate from the famous Rowntree Trusts; if you were looking for them in order to raise some money, you will need to go to http://www.josephrowntree.org.uk/) .
We are grateful to all our supporters, and you can find out more information about them here. We hope that you will support the businesses which support us – they care about York and its heritage.
